If you've got the time - making Halloween treats can be a ton of fun - especially if they're made with your favorite childhood snacks!
We made Funny Bone Frankensteins and chocolate sandwich cookie Hairy Eyeballs. They only require a few ingredients and minimal cooking (just melting the chocolate!).
Supplies and ingredients you'll need:
- Double Boiler (or microwave)
- Small bowls for your candies & melted chocolate (2-3)
- Parchment Paper
- Chocolate melting wafers (available at craft stores in a variety of colors)
- Sprinkles
- Candy Corn
- Candy Eyes of varied sizes
- Cookies - any sandwich cookies will do; chocolate, vanilla, flavored (there's many to choose from!)
- Box of Funny Bones (Yodels or Ho-Hos work well, too!)
First, lay out your parchment paper on a tray or cookie sheet and line up your snacks. Place your sprinkles in a small bowl (separate if you have multiple colors). Open the eyes and candy corn. You'll want all your ingredients close by since the melted chocolate will start to harden quickly.
Follow the melting instructions on the bag of chocolate using your double boiler or the microwave. (Be patient, low & slow is best; I learned this the hard way. No one wants burnt chocolate!) Carefully pour your melted chocolates into a small bowl.
For Frankensteins, dip into the chocolate, covering about one inch, then quickly dip in the sprinkles and place back on the parchment paper. Push candy corn into each side, add two eyes, and a long sprinkle for a mouth.
For the cookie Hairy Eyeballs, dip approximately halfway and then into the sprinkles. Add a single, large eye to the center. We used some extra melted chocolate in white to place our eyeballs, but this isn't necessary.
Allow the chocolate to harden completely before stacking or putting in plastic containers to store.
Eat & enjoy!
