Finding Neverland at the Hanover Theatre, Worcester

January 3, 2019

It's been a while since I've attended a theatre production (too long!). My wife, two friends and I were able to see the opening night performance of Finding Neverland at the Hanover Theatre in Worcester - and it was just magical. This was my first visit to the Hanover Theatre. What a gem - easy to get to, garage parking across the street ($15), beautifully appointed decor and not a bad seat to be had. There was extra magic in the air as you entered the theatre with the trees decorated for the holidays. The story line of Finding Neverland was truly inspiring. If you're a fan of Peter Pan, you'll want to know this backstory. You'll laugh, you'll cry - you'll cheer - as you learn of J. M. Barrie, his great adventures and the special people in his life.

The chemistry between Jeff Sullivan (J. M. Barrie) and Ruby Gibbs (Sylvia Llewelyn Davies) was noticeable even from the balcony. Both were completely immersed in their characters. Every scene, every song took you to a magical place - attending this performance certainly allowed me to escape from our day-to-day routine and it was a welcome change.

In December, we also gave away a 4-pack of tickets to a lucky subscriber - who emailed me today to say, "Thank you!!! Amazing show!!!! Seats were fantastic too!!!!! Thank you!!!!" (You're very welcome, Lisamarie!)

Tickets are available now and shows run through January 6 - so take the opportunity to enjoy this truly magical production of Finding Neverland. If you're taking your kids, be sure to grab a Children's Program - there's a special quiz, Captain Hook's Search-a-Word, a guide to becoming a Playwright and a special page to record your favorite songs, scenes, characters and costumes.

About the show:

Directed by visionary Tony®-winner Diane Paulus and based on the critically-acclaimed Academy Award® winning film, Finding Neverland tells the incredible story behind one of the world’s most beloved characters: Peter Pan. The magic of Barrie’s classic tale springs spectacularly to life in this heartwarming theatrical event. Finding Neverland is “far and away the best musical of the year!” (NPR) With a little bit of pixie dust and a lot of faith, Barrie takes this monumental leap, leaving his old world behind for Neverland, where nothing is impossible and the wonder of childhood lasts forever.
