What a busy week! Did you have a great Valentine's Day? (I'm always game for some clearance chocolate on February 15th!)
This past week we visited two new places - Wachusett Meadow Wildlife Sanctuary in Princeton, and The Strand Theater in Clinton.
Our first visit to Wachusett Meadow was on a cold, dreary day, but everyone we met there was bright, cheery and very friendly! Jenn D. and I had been emailing for the past few months about getting some amazing kid-friendly events up on our calendar, and one event finally caught my eye for my daughter - a Preschool Story and Nature Hour featuring dinosaurs! (Rawwwwwr!) The session included craft time, reading time and then a nature walk through the trails. Our daughter is just two-and-a-half and starting to attend more events like this, so her attention span was somewhat limited that day, and she didn't want to sit still for long. For us, just the experience of visiting the grounds and learning more was worth the visit! Since I had our 8-month old, too, we didn't stay for the walk - but other group went and I'm sure they had a blast. I know we'll be back again, they have such amazing classes, events and plenty of trails to explore! (Check the calendar for more events!)
The second place we went to visit was The Strand Theater in Clinton. Now this was our night out -so we didn't have the kids - but the theater certainly is kid-friendly! Mary Poppins Returns was playing and I knew we'd enjoy it (great movie!). We read through all the tips and suggestions on their website. There's only one show time - 7pm. Get there early to place your food order and eat before the show starts, doors open 45 minutes before showtime. (And leave time to find parking, as downtown Clinton was quite busy!) Tickets are just $5.50 each (WOW!) and the food was very reasonable. We ordered a burger with fries, fish sandwich with onion rings, a hard cider, large soda, popcorn and Reese's Pieces - and it was about $34. Compare that to a major theater... there's no comparison! The theater itself was clean and inviting (tons of leg room), staff were courteous and hard working through the rush. It was also great that we live just five minutes away - truly a 'best kept secret' in our little town! We will be back, and hope to take our daughter to her first movie there.
Did you get out and try something new? Know of a place we should visit? What's a 'best kept secret' in your town? Tell me about it! emilycabrera@macaronikid.com
Enjoy the week!
