The sales tax holiday for 2024 is August 10 and 11, 2024 in Massachusetts. Retail items of up to $2,500, purchased in Massachusetts for personal use on these days, will be exempt from sales tax. Online and in-person purchases qualify. Food and clothing are not taxed in Massachusetts. The standard MA State Sales tax is 6.25%.
Items to consider purchasing to take advantage of the tax savings:
- Laptops, computers, and printers
- School supplies (purchased together at the same time)
- Tires
- Cameras
- Yard Equipment
- Cosmetics
- Books
- Mattresses
- Furniture
A few items don't qualify. The following do not qualify for the sales tax holiday exemption:
- Meals
- Motor vehicles
- Motorboats
- Telecommunications services
- Gas
- Steam
- Electricity
- Tobacco products
- Marijuana or marijuana products
- Alcoholic beverages, and
- Any single item whose price is more than $2,500
