If you want to hike this fall, check out this great list of trails in Leominster. Many trails may be explored on your own, but a few informal hikes are scheduled for September through December 2022.

Explore various trails in Leominster and out-of-town sites once a month. Hikes are led by members of the Leominster Recreation Department and the Leominster Trail Stewards and are no more than 3 miles.Wear hiking boots: bring water to drink, a light snack, and bug repellent, and wear a long-sleeved shirt and pants. Dress in layers. Hiking sticks are helpful to bring if you have them.
- Cost: Free (unless noted)
- Cancellations: Hikes are canceled if it rains or if we do not have five people signed up.
- Pre-Registration Required: Call the Recreation Department at 978-534-7529 or email us to sign up for each hike.
- Hikers gather informally and hike at your own risk.
Saturday, Sept. 10 - Sholan Farms to Devils Pulpit
At 9:00 am meet at the Sholan Farms Trail Parking lot on Pleasant Street. We will hike through the apple orchard, then down to Fallbrook Reservoir and over to a popular natural rock formation hidden in the woods, known as ‘Devil’s Pulpit’. We will hike back along the Heywood Reservoir and back to Sholan Farms.
Saturday, Sept. 10 - Full Moon Hike-Sholan Farms
At 7:30 pm meet at the trailhead parking lot on Pleasant Street across from the Sholan Farmstand. Experience a hike through the apple orchard as we hike down to Fallbrook and Heywood Reservoirs and back. Bring your hiking stick and a headlamp or flashlight
Sunday, Sept. 25 - Quabbin Park and Reservoir (Full-day excursion)

At 8:00 am meet at Barrett Park to carpool to Belchertown. Join the members of the Leominster Trail Stewards as they travel to Quabbin Park in the town of Belchertown. Our visit will include a climb up the observation tower, views of the dams, spillways, the cemetery, and several scenic vistas. We will enjoy a pleasant lunch in the meadows on the shores of the reservoir. Bring your own lunch and beverage for a picnic lunch. You must sign up in advance, so we can plan transportation.
Sunday, Oct. 2 Elm St. to the South Monoosnoc Overlook & Granite Quarry
At 9:00 am meet at Barrett Park parking lot and carpool to the Elm Street trailhead. We will hike from Elm Street to the top of South Monoosnoc Hill to enjoy the view of Mt. Wachusett. We will then head down the hill to the granite quarries and descent back to Elm Street and hike back to our cars.
Sunday, Nov. 13 - Beech Forest Trail
At 9:00 a.m. meet at the end of Exchange Street and park outside the Distributing Reservoir gate. We will hike to the Distributing Reservoir and up the Beech Forest Trail to the Monoosnoc Trail and back to our cars.
Sunday, Dec. 11 - Elm St. to Wachusett St.
At 9:00 am meet at Barrett Park parking lot and carpool to the Haynes Reservoir gate. We will hike from Elm St. to Wachusett St. section of Monoosnoc Trail and back to our cars.
